Miss a Stitch

Filling in Holes

In the past few weeks I have been learning how to crochet (thanks to youtube videos!šŸ˜)

Obviously there's no need for fluffy woollen hats, blankets or gloves here in the tropics but it is turning out to be a very calming activity to think, pray, and clear my head.

It is an interesting process to be a 'beginner' at something totally new, initially fumbling around with the wrong size hook, and some cheap yarn from a bookshop. Even now a few weeks later, although I have improved, I still occssionally miss a stitch leaving an unnoticed hole to then have to go back, unravel my work, and fill in the missing link.

It is easy to continue on instead of paying attention to 1 small loop but it soon effects the balance of the whole piece; crooked lines and gaps that were easily missed earlier now draw the eye away from all the other neat rows of stitches.

Sometimes we don't like to address small things in life; we carry on regardless, pushing forward with our agendas, to do lists and responsibilities.

BUT failing to look at ourselves honestly and acknowledge our disregard only creates ragged edges and tangles that become harder to untie the longer we ignore.

Sharp comments, failing to return a message, hearing but not really listening & engaging, taking relationships for granted, overworking our bodies & minds, cutting corners, misplaced priorities....

Small overlooked mistakes matter- they effect our integrity and compromise our values.

It takes patience and humility to take restorative action; to go back, unravel what you have painstakingly invested in, take the initiative to correct and fill the neglected gaps....

These are the greatest moments for lasting change and meaningful growth!
