"He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honour him." (Psalm 91:15)

I have no idea how many times I have "called" upon God. Most of them are whispered prayers or wet pillow sobs of desperation. These are the moments when HIS name is the sound I need to remind myself and release over every situation.

Our prayers don’t disappear into silence. They are met by the God who responds.

His Answer is Always Himself

Psalm 91 has a fourfold promise in response to our call.

The One who hears is also the One who answers

1) "I will answer him."

The word for "answer" is "anah," which means "respond." God has an immediate response.

In the same way, a parent responds compassionately to their child's cry. He is not deaf, delayed, ignoring, or withholding. The sound of our cry may not be followed with an immediate solution in the way we desire, but there is an instant movement from His heart. This is more than enough!

2) "I will be with him in trouble."

All those times that you felt alone or forgotten were the moments He was closest. The trouble is "distress," or translated as "straits," which is a nautical term used to describe a dangerous and narrow waterway for a ship to pass through. They are notoriously difficult to navigate, and once you are in them, there is no turning around or escape. You have to continue to the end, but the presence of the Captain's hand steering is guaranteed!

3) "I will deliver him."

We all need deliverance and rescuing!

"Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all."

(Psalm 34:19)

I need His rescuing hand every day.

I have no strategies or ways out. My attempts usually make things worse. He is the only answer, the only navigator, and the only one whose freedom is true and lasting.

4) "and honour him"

The word for honour is "kabad," which means weighty. It can also mean honour and glory.

Somehow, by calling on His name, the heavy gravity pull of the difficulties shifts to a different weight of glory.

I don't fully understand the rescuing heart of God, but I am grateful for the promise of Him, our only needed answer!

The Difference Between Knowledge and Knowing

“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name." (Psalm 91:4)

There is a difference between knowledge about and knowing someone deeply. Many people know my name or facts about me. They might like social media posts or photos, but very few are close enough to know what my challenges were this week or what I am dreaming about or praying for.

The answer is not what He gives, but who He is!

We may enjoy reading articles and watching videos, listening to music, and even

participating in conference events or church activities. However, "Yada" signifies knowing through personal, ongoing experience. It is a two-way, continuous relationship, not defined by outward appearances.

"Chashaq" describes a personal love relationship; it means to cling to and be fully attached

to someone. This is not a brief encounter or an occasional coffee meetup. It represents a glued, devoted, and loyal reciprocated love commitment.

Knowing God cannot be reduced to facts, opinions, data collection, or even theology. While anyone can learn about various subjects with dedication, time, and determination, the conditions in this verse are not informational; they are about the heart.

His Answer is Complete and Personal

The promises of deliverance in Psalm 91 are not rooted in knowledge. They are relationally and intimately conditioned. El Shaddai's response to attachment is covenantal security. Protection and deliverance are reliant on proximity and a yielded life.

God’s response to our cry isn’t distant; it’s deeply personal

The Psalmist uses the word "sagab," which is protection that sets us high and out of reach from the enemy. We are inaccessible when we intimately "yada" HIM! When every area of our lives is submitted to Elyon Most High.

He reigns over all!

I think many of us want the deliverance rescue and high safety position results without fulfilling the conditions. Loving and knowing Him leaves no space for anything or anyone else.

Is He MOST HIGH in everything?

If you really intimately know His name, it will clearly be over and within every part of your life!
